Welcome from the Head of School

Welcome to the Newark Boys Chorus School revitalized home on the web. You may be here as a current or former member of our NBCS community or as a prospective new member. Regardless, I hope you will find our web site informative and helpful as you learn more about our history, tradition and programs.

In 2015, The Newark Boys Chorus School celebrated 45 years of academic and musical excellence. NBCS combines the training program for mastery of the thousand-year-old Boychoir tradition of choral music with a superior academic program. Our integrated educational experience promotes creativity and such traditional values as self-discipline, self-reliance, hard work, and teamwork. Its goals are to serve the youth of the greater Newark area and to provide rich musical experiences for the entire City. For almost one-half century it has remained focused on these goals. Our mission continues to be to develop our students into successful young men of sound character through rigorous academic and musical training.

The Newark Boys Chorus, often referred to as Newark’s Musical Ambassadors, has been heard throughout the world, performing a diversified repertoire that includes traditional classical music, spirituals, folk music and jazz. The Chorus has performed at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in addition to the White House and cathedrals throughout Europe. Not only does the Concert Chorus perform for entertainment, the boys also lend their voices to celebrate community events in the greater Newark area.

In addition to a demanding performing and touring schedule, The Newark Boys Chorus School boasts a rigorous academic program that includes math, science, language arts, social studies and an integrated STEM laboratory.  We also provide a world-class training program in music theory, keyboard instruction, and private voice lessons. NBCS graduates are recruited by selective private and boarding schools, and those who return to public schools are regularly placed in advanced courses.

Enjoy exploring NBCS online and please contact us if you have any questions or comments. I look forward to hearing from you and welcome to our school community.
